USS INGERSOLL (DD 990), Collision, June 1992                     

 

On June 20, 1992, the Spruance class destroyer, USS Ingersoll (DD 990) collided with the oil tanker Matsumi Maru in the Straits of Malacca. The collision occurred after USS Ingersoll crewmembers misinterpreted the merchant ship’s running lights. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported as a result of the collision.
