DECONTAMINATION SQUADS

  1. AS SOON AS BATTLE CONDITIONS PERMIT.
    1. Locate and isolate contaminated areas (Rope off and post signs).
    2. Identify type of gas used.
  2. IF BATTLE CONDITIONS PERMIT CONTAMINATED AREAS ON THE TOPSIDE WILL BE ABANDONED UNTIL THEY CAN BE DECONTAMINATED.
  3. THE MAN IN CHARGE OF THE DECONTAMINATION PARTY SHOULD WEAR AN ARM BAND.
  4. DECONTAMINATION PARTIES SHOULD ALWAYS BE EQUIPPED WITH:
    1. Full protective clothing and masks.
    2. Gas detector kits.
    3. Decontamination gear.
  5. DECONTAMINATION PARTIES SHOULD:
    1. Approach the contaminated area from windward.
    2. Avoid moving in and out of the contaminated area thereby spreading the contamination to other parts of the ship.
  6. CONTAMINATED PERSONNEL WHO ARE SENT TO THE GAS CLEANSING STATIONS FOR TREATMENT SHOULD UNDRESS PRIOR TO LEAVING THE CONTAMIANTED AREA. IN DOING SO, CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO DEPOSIT CONTAMINATED CLOTHING IN ONE AREA. REMEMBER THAT A CONTAMINATED PAIR OF TROUSERS THROWN ON A GUN WILL CONTAMINATE THAT GUN. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO ALL OTHER GEAR OR MATERIAL WHICH THE CONTAMINATED CLOTHING COMES IN CONTACT WITH.
